USING FLYERS TO GET REFERRALS

WHAT IS A FLYER? A flyer is basically a single page leaflet advertising a nightclub, event, service, or other activity.

Flyers are cheap to produce (you can copy a couple of hundred for just a few dollars), easy to change or update, can be put up for free, and can be distributed by yourself.

Flyers are typically used by individuals or small business and are a form of small scale, community communication.A typical flyer is usually printed on 8.5 inch by 11 inch paper and are distributed on street corners, placed on cars, etc.

There are many variations on the flyers such as smaller flyers, flyers that have individual tabs with your contact information on the bottom, etc

WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF FLYER?

An 8.5 x 11 flyer with 10 or 15 tabs on the bottom is much more effective than a plain flyer that requires someone to stop and write down your telephone number or web site.

Also these type of Flyers are better than someone taking down your flyer right away because 10 times as many people will be able to take a tab than the whole flyer!

WHERE TO POST YOUR FLYERS?

Place flyers only in places where you're allowed to and where you place them will be up to you!

Grocery Stores - almost always have places for flyers, brochures, business cards, etc. They either have a place that allows for you to tack them to a cork/bulletin board or they have a place where you can tape flyers to the wall.

Laundromats- are another good place for flyers. They almost always have a place for flyers (even tiny Laundromats) and because people spend a lot of time in there they have time to read them.

Convenience Stores - Most convenience stores have some sort of cork board near the ATM (Automatic Teller Machine). If they don't, Most convience stores will allow you to tape a flyer near the ATM. This may be on the ice machine, or the wall but usually if you see one flyer there already it is safe to place a flyer there.

Library - Check out your library. The local library usually has a place for flyers. They may even have an entire table dedicated to flyers, brochures, etc.

Local Mom and Pop Shops Your local pizza shop? The local barber shop? There are places all over yourtown that accept my flyers. Basically keep an eye out for a place that accepts flyers. Even in a little shopping center/malls there are stores that might take your flyer.

Colleges or Universities- there are typically some places at colleges that allow anyone to place flyers. There are typically other places that only allow official flyers that have been approved by the school. Approval is USUALLY easy. So don't neccessarily think that approval is out of the question.

But if the college you choose is like many others across the country, when you put up a flyer tonight, tomorrow morning it will be plastered over with ads for fraternity parties and upcoming meetings.

TIPS FOR COLLEGES

Tip #1: Get permission first:

Some schools first require that all flyers be approved by the dean's office or by student activities, then stamped with an official seal.

Tip #2: Don't hog the boards:

Tip #3: Remove your old flyers:

Don't wait months to take down your out-dated flyers.

Tip #4: Posting on walls are no-no's:

Nearly all colleges and universities across the nation prohibit sticking flyers to interior or exterior classroom walls. Taping or stapling flyers to walls eventually will peel off the paint, can damage drywall.

Tip #5: Never use glue or staple guns:

Heavy-duty staple guns are a no-no because they tear up the boards. Instead, use an office stapler, or a "light-duty" staple gun. Don't use glue on plexiglass or on glass — it's almost impossible to remove without damage.

Tip #6: Keep track of the best locations: Spend an hour or two going around your campus to do a bulletin board inspection — where they are, how heavily covered they are, and how well they're maintained.

Keep detailed notes about your observations of each location. Sit for an hour or two studying, or reading, monitor "traffic" in front of certain board locations. Write down how many students walk by the boards and note how many actually stop for a minute or two to read flyers.

Tip #7: One time-tested option is to place flyers on the backs of stall doors in restrooms, if it's permitted. These locations are the ultimate captive audience.

Tip #8: Classrooms vs. Hallways:

In classrooms, students are stuck in one place for an hour or more. If you place your flyers inside classrooms on the small bulletin boards near the doors, you'll get the whole class's attention. . But classrooms are better for reaching specific target market, while if you're looking for maximum exposure, hallways may be best. There may get 200 kids through a classroom in a day, but you may have 2,000 students walk down a hallway.

Tip #9: Best time of day to post your flyers: Go late at night or early in the morning.

Tip #10: Where to post on a board?

Try to put your flyers at eye level and remember than everyone isn't the same height. Some people are taller than others, while others use wheelchairs.

Tip #11: What if somebody post flyers over yours?

If someone slaps their flyers over yours, remove theirs. You have that right. But knowing how much you hate it when this happens to you, don't perpetuate the problem. That's precisely why you shouldn't post over someone else's flyers.

PLACES TO TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK:

ATM Machines - These machines are some peoles favorite place to put flyers. They tape them right on the side of the ATM machine. They typically put these flyers up on a Friday night or Saturday morning so that they'd be up all weekend before the bank people came back to tear them down. This is exceptionally good to do on holiday weekends where people spend more money and the bank is typically not open on monday so the flyer stays up another day. Again try this at your own risk.

Pay Phones - I have seen people tape their flyers to the sides of pay phones. Be wary of doing this as this could get you into trouble.

Mail boxes DO NOT DO IT. This is a FEDERAL offense, only Postal workers or the home-owners are allowed to put anything in mailboxes.

Hopefully, you found this page helpfull, please bookmark it and come back regularly! As when I learn new techniques or tips, I will post them on this site

6 Top Banner Basic Guidelines!

By Following these six basic guidelines, you can dramatically increase your banner ads' effectiveness (and the rate at which they are clicked):

1. Be professional: People are going to get their first impressions of your website based on your banner ad, so you need to be certain that it presents you in the best possible manner. This means you should be extra careful that all your spelling and grammar are correct. Also, select font sizes, styles and colors that maximize your ad's readability. If your banner ad is of poor quality, people will assume your website is too.

2. Ask for an action: What do you want people who see your banner ad to do? Most likely, first and foremost, you want them to simply click on it, so be sure your ad says so. Because this is so important, most of the banner ad designs already have a "call to action" (such as "Click Now") built in.

3. Keep it simple: Your banner ad may only have a few seconds to make its impact on the viewer. As a result, it must be able to convey your message in a small amount of time. By keeping your ad's concept and wording clear and concise, you increase the likelihood that the viewer will actually get your message. Remember, if the viewer can't easily and quickly understand what your banner ad is saying, it is unlikely he/she will click on it. Use the fewest (and most simple) words you can. Just because you can fit more words in your ad doesn't mean you should. Once someone clicks to your website, you'll have ample opportunity to provide more details.

4. Use words that raise attention or emotion: Words like "free", "special offer", "secrets", etc. help grab the viewer's attention and increase his/her curiosity in your offer. Try this technique: pretend you are reading your banner ad's text for the first time: would YOU be interested in or excited about what it offers? If not, then most people probably wouldn't be either.

5. Emphasize benefits, not features: What is the difference between a "benefit" and a "feature"? In simple terms, a "feature" is a service or an aspect of a service that you offer. A "benefit" is the actual impact it has on your customer. Let's say your site offers income tax services. Which of these is more enticing: "We speciallize in finding deductions" (a feature) or "Pay less tax" (the benefit)? Advertisers realized long ago that more than anything else people want to know how your product/service can improve their lives.

6. Test your banners: Because we've made designing banner ads so quick and easy, we suggest you design several, using different styles and messages. Run each one for a week or two and collect any data you can (such as click through rates). Analyze your data to determine what the more successful ads have in common and then refine your ads and test them again.

Top 10 Banner design Tips!

Just using or having the right banner software doesn't usually mean that you will create a good banner though. To give you some ideas on your banner design, try putting these 10 banner design techniques to the test.

  1. Use the words "Click Here" or "Enter" every time you design a banner.
You may think that these two words are overused online, but tests have proven that these words are able to increase the effectiveness of a banner ad by 20-30% without changing anything else in the banner. They inspire the reader to click on the ad if the headline of the banner interests them.

  2. Animate Your Banners.
An animated banner will increase your banner ads effectiveness by 30-40%. The key in using animation in your banner is keeping it small. The reason that you don’t want big pictures or images that look like live video in your banners is the fact that the banner will load too slowly on people’s pages. The visitors just won't see it.

  3. Create quick loading banners.
Keep most banners under 10-12 KB. This will be very difficult to accomplish when you are using animation in your ads, but it needs to be done. Most animated banners are 15-20 KB, but that is way too large to load quickly. Keep them small. As a matter of fact, try to keep your banner under 10 KB to have good results from a banner exchange.

The way to do this when using animation it to keep it simple, maybe only one or two movements. Then, use Paint Shop Pro to decrease the number of colors. A banner that may have been 15 KB can often be decreased down to 3 or 4 KB when you decrease the colors to 16 or 216. You need a nicely designed banner that is high quality but loads quickly.

  4. Use an awesome headline in your banner.
Don’t think that just having a good looking banner will make people click through. The key to effective banner advertising is having a good headline. A good technique to use is to keep the same headline on your banner ad that you have on your entry page. Then when they click through the banner, they will come to see the same headline that sparked an interest in them in the first place.

  5. The best word to use in your banner headline is "FREE."
This doesn’t mean that you just need to put the word "FREE" on your banner without any other text. Tell them exactly what they will be getting for FREE. Using the word "FREE" in virtually any headline will make your response rate increase dramatically.

  6. Blue underlined text will often increase your response rate.
When Internet users see blue underlined text, they know they are links. By placing your headline in this type of format more people will realize that it is a link to another site. It will achieve a higher click through ratio.

  7. A blue border will give you a better response rate then any other color border for your banner.
Use blue as the border color for your banner and it will influence more people to click onto the entire banner. These little things may not seem like much, but they can increase your response rates.

  8. It is often a good idea to use your web site address or some type of company logo in the banner.
Don't focus your banner on your logo or web site address, but do include it in many cases. Your main benefit headline should be the focus of your banner. Your use of a web address or company logo in a small section of the banner just helps to produce a branding effect on people’s minds giving you a few extra hits.

  9. Use trick banners.
Make your banner look like something in windows that people can click on. For example, a lot of effective banners I’ve seen use what looks like a windows slider. People create trick banners that look like sliders, buttons, checkboxes, and drop-down menus. These types of tricks will bring out the curiosity in people. They want to see more of the text and will click on the banner.

  10. Change your banner ads frequently.
Studies have proven that most banner ads start losing effectiveness after the third time a person has seen it. If they haven’t clicked on it by then, they probably never will. If you are spending a lot of money on advertising and purchasing hundreds of thousands of banner impressions, you will need to come up with a lot of different banners.

Promoters Tips-Networking!

One motto that I learned long time ago, was that "two heads are better than one"!

Which basically means:

(1)That some problems may be solved more easily by two people working together than by one working alone.

(2) There is more money to be made working with others than individually!

Now..how does this motto help me when promoting? Well, I know that I can't do everything myself! I sure don't know where all the "best forums to promote on" are! Nor do I know, which sites are the better paying and easiest to promote are!

I need partners/friends and associates to support me and complement my skills.

I admit it: I'm not the best "Creative person." Want an "attention grabbing banner" designed or how about a 250 word "call to action" article? Find someone else.
Those sure are not my strong sides! I'm strong at promoting, webpage/blog design, and "long term," thinking but not highly creative!

So what is the some of the secrets to my succe$$? I have a few solid friends that I can count on, whose opinons I respect and value, who can steer me in the right direction! Best thing of all..they don't hit me up for any money!

So why don't you make yourself more succe$$ful and start a network or even increase yours!

Here are a few of the people who I am proud to say that I network with..

A special thanks to all the above, and to those that choose to remain anonymous!!
